The Algonquin-Lake in the Hills Fire Protection District (ALFPD) has implemented a new program in an attempt to assist our citizens who may be home bound due to a medical issue.

Some of our residents have a medical alerting system in their home that can alert the fire department should an ambulance or fire truck be needed.  This system has a convenient button to press and once activated, we will be quickly dispatched to that location.

This is where a problem can occur; once we arrive at your house, how do we get in if you are not able to come to the door? Certainly we have the tools to forcibly open your door but this causes damage and more importantly, delays access to you in your time of need.

With the approval of the District’s Board of Trustees, we have purchased six (6) lock boxes that can be rented and temporarily mounted on your door.  As we only have a limited supply of boxes, they are available on a first-come-first-serve basis.

Once the box is mounted to your door, a key provided by you for your building will be locked inside this box.  Once secured, the lock box can only be accessed by a security key that is specifically assigned to the ALFPD.  This same type of box can be found on most of our commercial buildings and schools throughout our District.  For more information about this lock box, click here.

In today’s economic climate we had to scale back the amount of monies available for this program.  It is our intent to purchase additional lock boxes through the rental program.
